Executive Overview

Commerce Control is a highly opinionated, keyboard-first admin operating system built for high-volume D2C operators who find traditional platforms too slow.

The Challenge:
D2C brands running multiple stores needed a unified command center for products, orders, customers, and analytics — without the recurring per-sale fees and template limitations of Shopify or WooCommerce.

Engineering Approach

We designed a luxury black & gold admin panel with Convex real-time backend — complete with a dual selling model (Direct + Instagram), multi-store switching, role-based access, coupon engine, staff management, and a command palette for power users.

System Architecture

An event-driven architecture designed for high-throughput inventory mutations and real-time operational visibility.

Client Layer

React SPA with aggressive local caching (TanStack Query) and optimistic UI updates for zero-latency feel.

Event Bus

Kafka handling inventory deductions, webhook dispatch, and email triggers asynchronously.

Auth & RBAC

Strict JWT-based role verification implemented at the API gateway layer.

Engineering Challenges

Multi-tenant Data Leakage

Ensuring staff could only access data for the specific stores they were assigned to. Solved via a row-level security (RLS) model enforced deeply in the ORM.

Keyboard Navigation

Implementing a global Command Palette (CMD+K) that could deeply link to specific orders or products, requiring a highly optimized client-side search index.
